LITMAS provides a range of services to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and reduce human health exposure risks by considering fitness for purpose. A medical device would be expected to show different contaminants to a flooded building, and the types of mould expected in an unaffected roof void are not the same as in a healthy bedroom.
We:
- analyse samples in the context of the tested item or test location
- interpret laboratory findings in context of occupant sensitivity and proposed use of the building or other indoor space
- consider the environmental conditions that would lead to our observations, and where possible report on recent or aged contamination
The human body undergoes a series of complex reactions to environmental stresses that impact our senses. Poor lighting, noise, inferior air, unpleasant odours, thermal discomfort, or other factors combine to lead to biochemical changes in the human body. These changes that make some people more vulnerable to disease and mental health problems.
LITMAS can help assessors, and facility and building managers to keep at-risk areas within acceptable conditions, and show that existing or proposed maintenance is adequate to prevent potential exposure risks for a particular set of occupants. We can assist in meeting broader indoor air quality objectives for complex buildings, by assisting with IAQ data intepretation across chemical as well as microbial contaminants, as in many cases the two are interlinked.
Prompt improvement or return to safe and comfortable working conditions becomes the most critical operational target and is our goal when analysing samples or interpreting building-generated data.
LITMAS can help with designing an IAQ monitoring program to reduce risks from unforeseen microbial exposures.
